Robert Ziaja, D.D.S., M.S.

Dr. Robert Ziaja Robert Ziaja, D.D.S., M.S. is a dentist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is a licensed specialist in orthodontics.

After graduating first in his class from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, Dr. Ziaja attended the University of Iowa School of Dentistry for a two year specialty residency and Master’s Degree in Orthodontics. While at the University of Iowa, Dr. Ziaja also served as a clinical instructor in orthodontics.

Dr. Ziaja has published research articles on many topics including functional orthopedic growth appliances and temporomandibular joint disorders in the prestigious American Journal of Orthodontics. His Master’s Thesis also involved extensive research of temporomandibular joint disorders. On numerous occasions, he has conducted lectures on orthodontics and temporomandibular joint disorders.

As an orthodontic specialist, Dr. Ziaja, provides orthodontic treatment to children, adolescents, and adults. In children, Dr. Ziaja uses early intervention treatment to take advantage of a child’s natural growth to reduce the severity of a problem before it’s fully developed. The use of early treatment can minimize the need for extractions of permanent teeth or jaw surgery later. Dr. Ziaja also provides treatment to a significant number of adults. Adults benefit from orthodontic treatment not only from the improved appearance and improved self confidence, but also from the greater ease of maintaining their oral and periodontal health, which helps teeth last a lifetime. So that patients are fully informed, Dr. Ziaja will discuss different treatment options and their advantages and disadvantages to allow patients to elect an option that best suits them and their family.

Dr. Ziaja’s also provides treatment for the management of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ), craniofacial anomalies including those with cleft lip and cleft palate, as well as adult and adolescent skeletal and dentofacial imbalances, which may involve orthognathic surgery in combination with orthodontic therapy.

Dr. Ziaja’s professional affiliations include Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists, a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Great Lakes Society of Orthodontists, the Michigan Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Macomb Dental Society, and the Rochester Temporomandibular Joint Disorder Study Club. He has distinguished himself as a recipient of numerous awards, including the American Society of Dentistry for Children Award, the Alpha Omega Award for excellence in scholarship, the Jeffrey Eichhorn Award for outstanding character, the Floyd Peyton Award, and the Max P. Winslow Award for excellence in periodontal diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Ziaja was also awarded membership into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the prestigious Honorary Dental Society. He was featured as one of Detroit’s TOP DENTISTS in Hour Detroit magazine. He was honored to be voted best in the area by his peers.

Dr. Ziaja is a member of Ascension Crittenton Hospital’s medical staff.
